Storytellers and folklore fans rejoice!

Lovers of stories and storytelling can jump for joy. All the major world classics and general good stuff is here! William Tell, Robin Hood, the Arabian Nights, the Pied Piper, Lady Godiva, King Midas, Aesop, Pandora's Box, etc. etc. All of the major stories that were once commonly known to every literate child or adult are together in one volume! The book specializes in World Folklore more than the American variety. That genre is covered only lightly here with Davy Crockett, Geroge Washington and the Cherry Tree, a tale about Abraham Lincoln, and a handful of others. Fans of Pecos Bill, Mike Fink, John Henry, Br'er Rabbit, Johnny Appleseed, etc. will find these classics in B.A. Botkin's equally wonderful "Treasury of American Folklore." The more familar tales are buttressed with lesser known stories from Asia and Africa. Of special interest (and a real treat for those who are not familiar with it) is the epic Ugandan folktale "Kintu and the Law of Love" in perhaps it's most complete English-language version. For students and teachers, this book includes discussions and questions surrounding most of the stories that are quite thought-provoking, even to the reader who is not using this book for scholarly purposes. But in either case, for storytellers looking for material and for lovers of good stories, this book just can't be beat! Enjoy!
