A young boy named Kevin, suddenly finds himself on a new adventure, torn between leaving close friends and the only home he has ever known as he goes on road trip across the country from Pennsylvania to Colorado with his family. As a dark cloud rises over them, a rift grows as they feel the pain of being forced to leave their old life and home behind.

His older brother constantly beating on him and a baby sister both boys partially blame for their mom's recent health issues, deep down his mom hopes the trip will bring them closer. All the time, unaware that a desperate criminal follows them, bent on finding a treasure of gold that he is convinced they know about and know its hidden location.

Constantly watching for ways to force his way in, they unknowingly stop along different roadside attractions and stay on back roads, increasing his opportunities to strike.

Their only hope may be a boy named Luke that Kevin meets on a mountain near a summer cabin, a mysterious boy with a bear close by.
