Have you ever thought someone was more important than you? Well, Beth Mannings does in Bebe Faas Rice's book, My Sister, My Sorrow. Beth is an eighth grader who is convinced that her older sister Janna is perfect. More than anything else Beth wants to be the one who stands out, something that will make her different than her sister. Well, we need to be careful of what we wish for because at the age of 14, Beth gets something that definitely makes her different, but not exactly what she wanted. Beth gets cancer of the blood or Leukemia. She is sent to Hope House, which is a place for children with serious injuries or diseases. There Beth meets Eliot, a survivor of cancer, and learns and passes on to her family that being perfect isn't everything.
Beautifully written story about life and death.

A very touching story about life, death, the importance of family, and hope. Beth, who is diagnosed with leukemia, is a refreshingly likable, honest young woman. Bebe Faas Rice has written numerous other fine novels, including "The Year The Wolves Came", "The Listeners", and the "Class Trip" novels.
