We purchased this series to help my oldest learn to read. His Kindergarten teacher had told us he would never learn to read. The books are simply written and maintain the same plot line through all the books. The main character is always "Little (letter of the book." Each character has a box and decides to fill it with items that start with that letter. My oldest (now 8) reads on the 6th grade level with full comprehension. These books have done wonders in our house. I'm sorry to find that this series is now so hard to come by. I will definately hold on to these for my other children and then for their children.
Alphabetical fun with the letter "o"

"My 'o' Sound Box," written by Jane Belk Moncure, is a fun book for beginning readers. Colin King's humorous, colorful illustrations complement the simple story. In the book, a little boy known simply as "o" rounds up a group of animals, all of whose name's begin with the letter "o": octopus, otters, ostrich, etc. He takes them home for some play time.Although all of the "o" words in the main story have a short "o" pronunciation, the author includes a supplement of words that begin with an "o" that is pronounced long: okra, opal, ocean, etc. Each word has an accompanying illustration. The author and illustrator do an effective job of focusing on a single letter of the alphabet. This book is both entertaining and educational.
