This was my favorite book for bedtime reading. My mom read this to me hundreds of times when i was a little boy before going to bed. I am now 43 now and my mom located my original copy and I gave it to my daughter. She is 4.5 and I read it to her about 2 or 3 times a week. She loves it too. She also remembers alot of the lessons and it's teaching her about having good manners. She actually doesn't leave the table without asking if she can be excused first. It is mind boggling...the learning from this book is for real. I myself have learned lessons about not staring at people because it makes them feel uncomfortable and about being sociable to my guests and making them feel comfortable at my parties. I look back now and realize this is where I got it from, along with mom's upbringing of course.
A simple introduction to a too often neglected subject

My three year old, Jack, belongs to a children's book exchange, and in the treasure trove's last visit to our house, Jack found this book and decided it had to stay. I'm not generally a fan of Golden Books, but the rule is, he gets to choose. Well, weeks later, Jack remains very interested, not only in this book but in developing pretty manners! The pictures are whimsical and the explanations brief and to the point. There are no long, involved explanations about why; good manners are just assumed to be what's expected.
