Lots of Thrills in this Lovely Romance

Allison Weatherby was a beautiful widow, left near destitute by her husband's demise but surviving under the kind care of Thorne D'Aumont, the dashing Marquess of Silverthorne and her childhood friend. Hearing the catty whispers at function that she was the mistress of Thorne, she thought that it was time that their friendship be taken to the next level - for her that would be marriage. Unfortunately, Thorne vowed never to marry for love and what he proposed to Allison under the throes of a passionate encounter was carte blanche which so angered Allison that she removed her mother and herself vowing to never spend another night under one of Thorne's roofs. The attraction and love was there for both of them but Thorne could not commit to a marriage with someone he could love and become slave to her whims like his father before him.Eventually, for the sake of the comfort of her mother, Allison agreed to stay at one of the lesser cottages bordering the Silverthorne castle in the hope of encountering the Silver Lady - a ghostly spectral vision she had seen a few times as a child. She knew herself to be one of the heirs to the treasure rumored to be buried in the castle. If she could find the treasure, she would be financially independent and able to live away from Thorne, the man she loved but knew she could not have. This was a very romantic and intelligent love story. - It took being trapped together for them to realize that they could learn to be partners and not try to dominate one another. This was a fast paced and exciting romance, filled with sexual tension, ghostly encounters, and good secondary supporting characters. Just enough excitement, thrills and chills in the escape sequence and really an intelligent romance that didn't have any of the silliness that so often is found in these lighter regency type romances. I really loved the Silver Lady ghost and the `guard geese' that I thought was an unusual but effective plot in the story. The imprisonment and the escape were also extremely well written and will keep you on the edge of your seat. This was a fully satisfying read that I highly recommend!

A Regency with just a twist of something different

Lady Elena vows to fulfill her father's dying wish of keeping the treasure of Silverthorne Castle for his grandchildren, not letting it fall into the hands of his traitorous brother.Generations later, the fabled treasure has never been found. Most do not believe it exists, but there are some who say that Lady Elena, The Silver Lady, haunts Silverthorne--but is she there to drive away thieves or to lead the rightful heir to the trove?Thorne doesn't believe either treasure or ghost exist--he is sure that the childhood sightings of the Lady by his distant cousin Allison were only the products of a young imagination. Besides, he doesn't need the wealth--and indeed, tales of it have only brought him grief, as his father and brother died trying to find it. He ardently desires and cares for Allison, his childhood friend, but he knows he cannot marry her (even if he wanted to marry!) because he must produce an heir--and she did not have any children even though she was married for six years before being widowed. As Allison has grown up, her affection for her friend and playmate Thorne has grown into love. But he says he doesn't want a wife who openly and frankly airs her educated opinions on everything from politics to literature--even though he seems to fully enjoy their discussions. Allison is not willing to become his mistress, so she and her impoverished mother must find another place and means to live.MY LADY GHOST is a lovely regency story of two people who grew up as friends and fell in love--but who have reasons to believe that a marriage between the two of them would never work. The parts of the story concerning the Silver Lady and the treasure of Silverthorne are very well done, providing adventure, mystery, and a slice of the paranormal (and some marvelous love scenes) without taking away from the romance. All in all, MY LADY GHOST is an enjoyable way to spend an evening, especially for readers who want just a twist of something different in their regency. Some readers may wonder if this book is related to Ms. Calvin's November 1996 regency MY LORD GHOST (also a fun read): some of the characters in MY LORD GHOST are *very* briefly mentioned in MY LADY GHOST, but the stories aren't related, and it is certainly not necessary to read one before the other.Kimberly Borrowdale, Under the Covers Book Reviews

Outstanding, fast paced read filled with many surprises.

Rife with intrigue and mystery, this tale will keep readers enthralled from page one. Thorne D'Aumont, Marquess of Silverthorne and Allison Weatherby try to deny their love for each other as they struggle to learn if the old tale of treasure buried beneath Silverthorne Castle is true. When they battle a villainous treasure hunter intent on getting the treasure for himself they find themselves trapped beneath the crumbling castle and in a life threatening situation. Helping in their search not only for the treasure but for a way out of the tunnels is the ghost of an ancestress. Aiding their capture of the villain are the geese set to guard the castle. I really enjoyed this story. It was wonderful the way it hooked me in and held me fast. I loved the characters and _felt_ every second of Thorne's and Allison's trip down in the tunnels. And when they were trapped I squirmed in my chair. I found it gripped me by the gut and pulled me into the story and held me there page after page. This is the best yet from the pen of a master story teller.
