An inside glimpse of Hutterite life

Lisa M. Stahl wrote a newspaper column, for several years, where she shared her life as a young girl living in a Hutterite community. The columns were later gathered together and compiled into this fascinating book. We get to share in the day to day happenings within the community and I found myself wishing I could spend some time with the wholesome people of this warm community. The book ends with the days of her engagement and subsequent marriage to a young man from another Hutterite community. We get to enoy all of the many preparations and the sweet wedding ceremony that takes place after she moves to her new husband-to-be's community. I was sorry to see the book end and wished that I could know what is happening today in the life of this amazing young woman.

Delightful and informative book

My Hutterite Life by Lisa Marie Stahl is a delightful book. Lisa began writing columns for Montana newspapers as a young Hutterite teenager. She quit writing for publication(temporarily, I hope) when she married a man of her faith and moved to Canada at the age of 20. This book is a compilation of some of her columns which explain the lifestyle of Hutterites, an Anabaptist religious group who live on communal farms known as colonies throughout the prairies of the US and Canada through the eyes of a teenage girl. Many of us see them often, in their distinctive costumes in the local stores or medical offices and wonder about what their life is like. It seems to be very much hidden and Lisa's book begins to open the door of understanding. She has a natural gift for writing and I hope she will at some time in the future be able to share her gift with the public again. If you are interested in religion or agriculture or cultural anthropology you will enjoy this book.
