My First Opposites Board Book

My First Opposites Board Book is quite long and so very filled with colourful pictures that I think it makes a wonderful afternoon read. It's one of those books that you share laying on the floor just looking at the pictures and discussing (or just pointing at for the very young) all the animals or objects. Each time you read this one you'll see something new. Being as it encourages interactivity, I wouldn't suggest this one right before bedtime. Little ones will get too excited. It's also quite long compared to most board books so it's best not to be in a hurry with this one.

my daughter's favorite

I like the whole 'my first' series, good book for baby and young kids, both fun and educational. my daugher start to read it when she was a few months, and she still like it and could figure out more new things from the book.

Durable, small enough for toddler hands

I have five of these smaller board books that teach different things like body parts, colors, numbers, etc. This one is about opposites. It shows things like a big slide and a small slide, short pens and long pens, and soft and hard, that kind of thing. The pictures seem a little dated, and a lot of the opposite things they show are hard to tell what is opposite about them. Since the book has no textures, it is a little hard to teach a little kid about it when the picture doesn't quite do it. For example the slides, the big one shows a kid on it, and the small one shows a kid on it. It's not obvious that one slide is bigger than the other. I guess the kids are in it to show the difference, but the kids look to be different ages too, so it doesn't help. Also, some of things to me don't make sense, and I wouldn't use them myself to teach the opposites of things. My daughter does enjoy looking at the pictures and talks about what is in the picture, but I don't think she understands the opposites on each page. She does already know some opposites like up and down, open and close, on and off, big and small, and others that she learned elsewhere. The book is very sturdy and small enough for her to carry and hold in her lap.
