Ronald K. Fried's "My Father's Fighter" offers a realistic look into the world of pro boxing from an unexpected source - a high school English teacher. Vincent Rosen, the narrator, takes over management of his dead father's fighter - white light heavyweight Micky Davis, a hypochondriac who is looking for one big payday. Fried doesn't take the easy way out, and uses dialogue effectively to capture the often grungy world of the fight game. In the end, this is an enjoyable read with interesting - if flawed - characters. Definitely recommended.
