A Short Book With a Good Message

This is a nice book written for children between the ages of four and six by Meghan McCain, daughter of John McCain. Though it's only thirty pages short, Ms. McCain hits all the high points of her father's life. She shows how he did poorly in school, how he was not a follower of rules until he went to sea his first time. She tells of her father's service to his country, how he got shot down, became a POW, a congressman and a candidate for president. A good book if you want to explain to a young one the virtue of not quitting. John McCain didn't quit and that's a value good for your child, good for you too.

Great Children's Book about an American Hero Written by a Loving Daughter

In My Dad, John McCain, Meghan McCain has written an entertaining children's book, complete with exquisite drawings, about the life of her father. While written with the election in mind, this book is worth sharing with children regardless of who wins the presidential election because it tells the story of a modern American hero who loves his country and never gives up. The nice thing about this book is that it is written from the perspective of an adoring daughter who wants to tell children about her dad. The tough thing about doing this is telling children about some of the life threatening sacrifices John McCain made for this country. Meghan is able address some pretty serious challenges faced by her father such as a flight training accident, an explosion and fire on the USS Forrestal, the shooting down of John McCain's plane over Vietnam, his refusal to go home early and his treatment in prison, in a way that will not frighten children but will in fact teach them about honor and courage. It will also give parents a chance to talk to their children about these important issues. The book also talks about John McCain's political career and his run for the presidency. Parents will have the opportunity to talk to their children about government and politicians in a positive way. One of the things Meghan mentions a number of times is her dad's decision never to give up whether as a prisoner of war or in his political life. Meghan notes, "my dad just doesn't give up. He never did as a prisoner of war, and I know he never will give up fighting for what he believes." This book touches on a number of things about John McCain that I admire and a number of themes such as courage and fortitude and that I want to share with my niece and nephew. It also is a great story about a daughter who loves her dad and that alone is worth sharing with children about who you care.

Wonderful Book By A Loving Daughter!

This is a wonderful book by Meghan McCain written for children to explain why she believes her father would make a good president. She mainly addresses that by going over John McCain's life and how he has lived it. It is a nice story and she tells it well. A great addition to any school library or classroom.

wonderful children's book

This is an excellent book written for children about an American war hero. The pictures are lovely and it is a great overview of John McCain's life. I took my daughter to her book signing and she does not deserve the negative comments written here. It's a shame that her book is not being reviewed but she is (or more accurately, her father's politics.) This is a great book any child would learn something from.

A touching tribute

A very sweet and moving book written for children about a great American hero. The book is written for children
