Book 3 of the Mustard Trilogy

Incredible art undermined by a preachy story

The illustrations in this children's book are marvelous and make it well worth the price of the book. Unfortunately, the text is heavy-handed New Age "Message with a capital M" and not much good as a story. Everybody seems to think that writing is easy, you just type away and bammo! there's a story! Well, this book would be much better without the words. On other occasions I have seen wonderful visionary artists undercut the mystery and meaning of their art with clunky, graceless, all-too-obvious prose. Don't explain your art! Let the viewer get it for themself, and it will be a much richer experience.

A Story for All Ages

This book caught my eye because of it's beautiful cover and then captured my heart with its gentle, inspiring story and glorious illustrations. Told as a fable, the author touches upon life teachings suitable for all ages: respect for self and others, community, loving and letting go, and growing up. It would be a lovely book to read aloud to children or to open a discussion with young adults.

Delightful Book and Series

Jessel Miller is as talented an illustrator as she is a storyteller. Her three Mustard books are filled with whimsical watercolors in bright hues and rich details. They teach values such as caring for the earth and respecting your elders and everything in between. They are a joy to read and a wonderful gift idea..

Soft Love and Strong Values

I received the first Mustard book as a gift, and could not wait until the next two came out so I could add them to my favorites. As I work with women who are going through tough life experiences, such as divorce, I often sit them down and read softly from the mustard books. They help o restore hope to a soul that is tortured. Jessel has captured that soul soothing that happens when you curl up in a down comforter, sipping a cup of hot chocolate, and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the moment. Her mustard books touch the core of the being in reminding one to have strong values, learn from their elders, serve others, and enjoy the goodness of this earth. The illustrations and story support each other in providing a feel good experience.
