Music in Video Production

Music in Video Production provides video producers with vital information on the uses and accessibility of music for their own work. Creating a bridge between the diverse demands of music and video, the author takes video producers through the ins and outs of commissioning original music, using music libraries, and public domain music. The book offers important information on music permissions, licensing, agencies, re-use, copyrights, and misappropriations. Rosanne Soifer provides practical information on how music is incorporated into video, how and when to produce an MTV-style piece, and music videos for sales and training. Music in Video Production also covers aesthetics and instrumentation and explores the characteristics of common music styles from baroque to country, rock, and music by machine. The text also includes a chronology of Western music. Through ?how-to? examples, including costs, information on recording music, and sample letters of agreements and contracts, Music in Video Production will help producers to develop and improve their understanding of music for all non-broadcast video applications. While aimed primarily at video managers and producers, this book is also of interest to broadcast users and college students studying recording engineering and studio production. Rosanne Soifer is a member of Local 802 A.F. of M. and of ASCAP and received her Bachelor of Science in Music from Indiana University. She has played piano on club dates, for dinner theater, and as an accompanist for many New York City area professional dance studios and companies, including American Ballet Theater. In the 1970s she spent two years in Nashville playing country music in a road band. Her articles on many aspects of the music industry have appeared in numerous music and audio publications, including MIX, Pro Sound News, Allegro, and The Music Paper, in which she has had an ongoing column since 1981. Ms. Soifer is currently the Director of the Music Business program at the Institute of Audio Research in New York City and co-owns Ennasor Music, a publishing and production company, with her husband, Steven Danenberg.
