This book is a good introduction to the many roles music plays in life and culture. For me it was no spectacular revelation, but I already had a degree in anthropology when I got it. But for anyone who is new to anthropology or has never thought about how music impacts our lives and what we use it for, it is a great place to start. The writer does a fine job of explaining some basic concepts of both music and anthropology in terms that are easy to grasp.
