do you think you are serious about tattooing? consider yourself a bit of an expert on it? and you don't have this book? (not even any of the other tattootime issues?) then re-think and re-consider! anyone serious about tattooing, its backgrounds, its history should have this book. and all the other four issues. they are all out on hardy marks publications; the publishing company owned and run by don ed hardy. whom you should know.this volume is entitled "music and sea tattoos" and covers lots of topics! origins of sea/water tattoos in the pacific (by dan thomé!), sailors and their tattooing tradition (background and motifs), a photograph essay covering different "mermaid" tattoos, another one covering "pirate" tattoos, an interview with the innovating tattoo artist pinky yun (one of the first asian tattoo artists that worked in the states), the traditional "rock of ages" tattoo (historical background, variations on it by different artists), sea and water tattoos in japan, the japanese tattoo revolution amongst the young japanese, punk rock tattoos, tattoos and music. plus profiles on tattoo greats greg irons, leo zulueta, doc webb and bob roberts. one of the things i like best about tattootime 3 is the number of photographs. there are so many of them! and all of very good quality, showing good quality work.as in most other "tattootime" issues there are "suggested further reading" listings at the end of each article/chapter. i love those, but dislike them because they tell me about more and more interesting books i should still buy (and study!).
