The men in Emily Jones' life haven't been all that great. First there's her ex-husband, whose perverse efforts to belittle her have succeeded in making her doubt herself at every turn. Then, there's her pathological neighbor who's hell-bent on making her pay for having interfered in his family dynamic, when she was only trying to help. And rounding out the list, there's her pathetic boss. Admittedly, he's amazing in one respect: he can actually stand up straight when there's no evidence at all that he has a backbone.
