Great for Teaching Fiction vs Non-Fiction

I like to read this book to my kindergartners to explain the difference between fiction and non-fiction. After I read the story I tell them that books fit into two groups. I put up one sign that says fiction and another that says non-fiction. I show them a fiction book, tell them the title and explain what the book is about. I ask them to tell me what type of book this is. Then I put that book under the fiction sign. Next I show them a non-fiction book and ask them the same question. Then I put that book under the non-fiction sign. I continue showing books, asking the same question, and putting the books under one sign or the other until each child has had a turn to answer. It works great!
