For Mountain Lovers

This is a large, heavy book as you can see. After a brief intro about mountain geography, this book contains nothing but photos and captions about each photo. Generally the captions describe the name of the mountain, where it is and its height and other info at times. The photos are grouped according to continent ie. North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Australasia, Antartica, Africa etc. Most photos fill one page, but there are many double page shots as well. The photos are printed on nice glossy paper and the book is well bound. For the size of the book, the price is extremely reasonable. Most of the photos are "calendar" type shots, depicting the mountains looking at their best in favourable weather conditions - which I like. I particularly like the shots of the Andes and Himalayas - for a change we get to see many peaks from meadows with lakes or streams in the foreground and not just rock and snow shots. Many photos are of peaks you will not have seen in any other publications. The only drawback, is that some of the photos are not that sharp. Many full page or double page photos are nice and clear, but quite a few are also a little grainy or verging on blurry. Probably due to the enlarged size in this book. No doubt the book would cost twice as much if all shots were crystal clear and shot by world renowned photographers with large format cameras. Overall, a lot of spectacular scenes are portrayed in a book at an affordable price.
