The Motley Fool Investment Tax Guide: An Investor's Year-Round Resource for Smart Tax Decisions

Most tax guides these days are hundreds of pages long, resemble telephone books, and require two arms to carry. And unless you're an accountant, you probably need to refer only to a handful of pages... This description may be from another edition of this product.

Very Useful, Easy to Understand and Charmingly Written

As someone who began investing four years ago and began doing my own taxes just one year ago, I found this tax guide to be extremely informative. It is a quick and enjoyable read - perhaps an unsurpassed feat for a tax guide - with lots of helpful examples. This tax guide provided great tips for dealing with my taxes this year (i.e., what to do with that one worthless security) as well as numerous ideas for how to plan my investment strategies in the future. It also contained the most understandable explanation of the New Roth IRA that I have read this year. I highly recommend this tax guide to anyone who invests. I certainly feel more confident about preparing this year's tax return. Indeed, in a strange way I am almost looking forward to doing my taxes now.

Most readable tax book

I had never done our taxes. But after reading this most simple and informative book, I am going to try my hand at doing our taxes. I am a 66-year-old woman, and not good at these things. But I shall try this year. This book explained a lot of things for me, so now I'm more confident. (It was entertaining, too!)

Great primer on how the IRS treats your Investments

This book paid for itself immediately for me. I was unaware that it was kosher to adjust the cost basis in an investment by the commissions charged on its sale! The authors really put the IRS jargon into English for all to comprehend, proving that even taxes can get Foolish.

an easily-accessible reference

This year is the first year I have been managing my own investments without relying on a full-priced broker for advice. I am a regular at The Motley Fool site, and there is a wealth of tax information there, but written in layman's terms, instead of the I.R.S.'s confusing language. I'm not a tax expert, so I don't know how thorough the information here was, but I came away with a firm understanding of the tax repercussions of my investments. Especially during the end of the year here, I find myself referring back to this book continually to help me make end-of-the-year tax decisions--and now I know what to keep in mind for a fresh start next year. I'm glad to have bought it, just to have something handy to flip through, since wading through information and bookmarks online can be time consuming. I've already used this book avoid stupid, tax-inefficient investing, which has saved me the price of the book many times over in taxes.
