Sucks you in, spits you out

I read this book in one day - it's about a young lesbian punk named Simone, and she is drawn into the world of her bizarre and messed-up friend, Cherry. After being her pawn and admiring her for years, things begin to break their friendship down once Cherry quits high school and becomes involved with a drug dealer. This book is a fast read and well-written. The plot isn't really strong, but it's a simple story, and there's lots of interesting elements thrown in - the punk scene, teenage prostitution, transgender teens, etc. It's well rounded. The thing about these people is I didn't really believe they were teenagers. They seemed older. Simone is a likable character, Cherry is repellant, Carlotta is fun, and Sexy Carol is captivating. Overall it's a good book.
