Moscow Calling

Set in London in the modern day, Moscow Calling, is a pacey story about deceit, wealth and loyalty. Dimitri Priskin has dual British-Russian nationality. He works for a rich Russian called, Yuri Asamovich. When Priskin is out-bid for two exquisite Faberge eggs at a London auction. Asamovich demands to know who the buyer is and orders Priskin to get the eggs, by any means, fair or foul. The buyer of the eggs turns out to be a man called Dale Farthing. Priskin recruits the services of a burglar to break into the Farthing's home. They break into the house, but the eggs are nowhere to be found. Nonetheless, Priskin does not leave empty handed. He takes a cat from the house.Days pass before Priskin returns the cat to the home of its rightful owners: Dale and Octavia Farthing. This leads to Priskin and his wife Olga to become friends with the Farthings. Priskin discovers that Dale Farthing purchased the Faberge eggs on behalf of his father-in-law, another extremely rich Russian called Sergei Molinsky. Priskin meets with Molinsky and they become friendly. In a rather stupid error of judgement, Priskin tells Farthing all about Asamovich's past in Moscow, which includes the possibility that he was mixed up in the murder of a Moscow-based journalist. This turns out to be serious when Farthing tells Priskin that he wants him to help him blackmail Asamovich. Priskin pleads with Farthing to drop the idea, but despite reassurances Farthing seeks to go ahead with a money-making scheme. Priskin has no alternative but to ask for a meeting with Farthing's farther-in-law, Sergei Molinsky. Priskin and his wife are invited to a dinner party in Molinsky's London apartment with several other couples, one of whom are the Farthings, and Yuri Asamovich and a lady friend. At the party, things turn sinister as the truth about the relationship between the two rich Russians and the murder of the journalist is revealed.
