More Sub Tales

The authors of the Poopie Suits & Cowboy Boots series are pleased to announce the publication of More Sub Tales , the sequel to the immensely popular Sub Tales: Stories that Seldom Surface . This is the fourth book in the series of true stories about American submarines. The series also includes Poopie Suits & Cowboy Boots, The Silent Service Remembers (Vols. 1 and 2), and Sub Tales 3. All six titles contain riveting accounts of the triumphs and tribulations of the US Submarine Force. Each book features plenty of vintage photographs and personal recollections from the men who served. More Sub Tales joins the series with 36 new stories about the Silent Service, spanning more than a century of history from the experimental submarines conceived by Simon Lake in the late nineteenth century to the christening of the USS Hawaii (SSN-776) in 2006. Together these stories weave a compelling and instructive narrative of American submarines and the men who rode them. Richly illustrated with more than 350 photographs, More Sub Tales will entertain and inform the reader about key moments and milestones in the evolution of submarines. Learn about the many ordeals, sacrifices, and brave acts that represent the proud legacy of this underappreciated segment of our Armed Forces. Each story has been carefully vetted by more than two dozen veteran submariners for accuracy, and in most chapters, additional authenticity has been gained by interviewing actual participants. Care has been taken to omit what needs to remain classified, but in no way does such safeguarding get in the way of captivating storytelling. The book has been written with clear language, and explanations where relevant, to appeal to a wide-ranging audience beyond only those familiar with submarine service. The content is regularly updated; the most recent update was completed in July 2022. Each short story is a stand-alone segment that allows one to open the book at any point to delve into the fascinating history of US submarines. Among the many topics covered are the pierside sinking of the USS Guitarro (SSN-665) in 1969; the devastating fire that swept through the USS Bonefish (SS-582) in 1988; the traditions of submarine launches throughout the 20th century; the story of Wally Bishop, the beloved Chief of the Boat on the doomed USS Scorpion (SSN-589); the improbable rescue of George H.W. Bush by the USS Finback (SS-230) in 1944; and the remarkable story of Slade Cutter, one of the most revered submarine captains of all time. More than a year in the making, and involving hundreds of interviews and thousands of correspondences, this richly-researched volume takes its rightful place in the expanding Poopie Suits series. Simply put, these books chronicle what makes the US Submarine Force one of the world's elite military groups. All proceeds from the sales of the Poopie Suits series up to the first $50,000 were donated to the Scholarship Fund of the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. (USSVI), the premier civic organization for submarine veterans. This goal was reached in May 2021. Thank you for your interest in our books.
