One of my favorite memories of when my children were small are the holidays. Something about the atmosphere of holidays or birthdays or even weddings when there are small or young children is cozy and sweet. Driving around the neighborhood a few days before Christmas to view the lights. Taking them trick-or-treating. Cooking a Thanksgiving feast for them. Getting up extra early on Christmas morning to watch them tear into the boxes. Taking them to the party store a few weeks or days before Halloween to buy costumes. Mixing colors and decorating eggs. Endlessly hiding eggs. Taking them shopping a few days/weeks before Christmas to hear Christmas music and see the decorated stores. Buying a Christmas book at the book fair and having them sit in my lap while I read it to them. Taking them to the Autumn festival. Seeing how happy all that pizza and ice cream makes them on their birthday. Watching my little girl walk down the aisle in her big white dress when she is a flower girl for her best friend's mother's wedding (and fighting back the tears). (These particular examples of events are in no particular order - they are scambled.) Reading this little holiday poetry book takes me back to those precious times and memories. Sometimes I wish they could stay little forever. I think this is one reason why I like the holiday/event/occasion cozy mystery series by Leslie Meier. I can really connect with her. I, too, love my children, spend lots of time with them, and always made a big deal of the holidays when they were little. This is a wonderful poetry book. My favorites are: "Christmas Shoppers" on page 48, "Winter Birds" on page 27, and "Summer Doings" on page 31.
