A classic

This is a classic 80's vintage romance by one of the foremost historical authors of the genre. Full of lavish detail and characterization, the story is a rich immersion into the bygone era of colonial America. I give this 4 stars only because, as with most 80s era romances, it is awash with 'the big understanding' that drags on for entirely too long. But that's a minor downside and the book is thorougly enjoyable otherwise.

A must read!

Susan Wiggs has captured the reader's emotions with this book. Her two main characters are absolutely wonderful. I laughed and cried! This book is an exciting adventure from England to America. Her supporting characters range from Indians to trollops. If you are looking for blackmail, romance, and quick dialogue-this is a must read!
