Extremely useful!

I found this an extremely useful tool while on my many travels around Mongolia. It is comprehensive enough for most encounters and easy to navigate and includes some basic customs and cultural information. Text is in English and Mongolian Cyrillic with a phonetic breakdown for easy (?! It is Mongolian after all!) pronunciation. The fact that it has a Mongolian-English dictionary as well as English-Mongolian sets it above most basic phrasebooks and makes it extremely handy and also fun for Mongolians to pass around and have fun with! It really is a bonus and helps the communication no end! Expect yours to get covered in mutton grease and milk tea as mine did! A bonus souvenir many months later when that faint aroma reminds you of an incredible trip! The only reason I didn't give it 5 Stars was because I am not wild about the format size. It is a bit long to fit comfortably in pockets but this minor issue is outweighed by it's usefulness. Mongolia is one of the most strange and beautiful countries I have been to and the people are hands down the most hospitable! Even without this book you will have a life changing Adventure but with it you will have a greater depth of experience and richer encounters with the wonderful people. In short, it is worth the weight in your daypack!

useful for a while

I purchased this just to be able to throw some smalltalk txt messages to my beautiful mongolian girlfriend. The book explains a bit about grammar and culture which is interesting and provides a very limited set of phrases. I ran out of phrases in a couple of weeks. The phrasebook does not include a cheesy section so I could not say "I miss you". Damn it ! Overall is a good value for money and a great introduction to this neglected and peculiar language. Buy it immediately if you are curious, but don't expect to learn much.
