One of my favorites

Mr. Dodson's book is an excellent compilation of all (known) Egyptian dynasties. It has also some general information on daily life in ancient Egypt. He has a fluid, straight-to-the-point style that I highly enjoy, mostly unbiased and distanced from his personal beliefs. There is an outstanding "Guide for further reading" that lists books by chapter. Maps of Egypt, Nubia, Near East in the New Kingdon and Thebes and Abidos help comprehend the History of that country. A list with "Chronology and the Kings of Dynastic Egypt" has kings presented by period and dynasty with their "prenomen" (like "Maetkare"), "nomen" (name bestowed at birth, like "Hatshepsut"), the "Conjectural Dates" of their reigns and their "Regnal Years." A must have for quick reference.

compact yet accurate

This book provides a compact chronicle of the most significant Egyptian monarchs from the earliest times to the end of Nektanebo II's reign. The lives and achievements of these rulers (famous or lesser-known kings and queens) are clearly summarized and accurately detailed. Well illustrated in black and white, this book is mostly recommended for students.
