Excellent Resource!

This book by Dr. Raizen is great for learning Hebrew, whether on your own or in class. She thinks after my own heart, and provides detailed usage information in a separate section for much of the vocabulary and expressions that she gives in each lesson. It is very helpful to have a corresponding website with readings and games, to better reinforce the materials. I also like how she marks the accent if it is different from what you would expect, and that there are many exercises to learn the concepts. I am also currently studying the Routledge introductory Hebrew book, and even as an intermediate student there are things in there that I find most helpful. That book and online multimedia package also has its strengths. I would recommend looking at both of them, to get broader coverage. All in all, this is a great resource to truly see the language and how it works!

good book, very technical looking though

This book may be a bit advanced and technical for some even though it's a book for beginners. It's very thorough in its explanations and developments. It is a very adequate college textbook of the modern Hebrew language.

Nice changes

This is the follow on to Prof. Raizen's Modern Hebrew for Beginners. Like the first book, it uses reading exercises, videos, verb practices from the Web. However, she's made some changes that make the book easier to use. Vocabularly lists are now in alef-bet order. Units start with a reading selection and reading comprehension questions where before it could have been either the reading selection or a video.I liked the beginners book and I think I'm going to like this second book even better. One thing I don't like about the book is that it gives instructions for completing exercises in Hebrew. Although it's good to get students thinking in Hebrew, I think she did this a little too soon. That's why I marked it down to four stars.
