Outstanding book

This is an excellent book. Ms. Moore has depicted our history with unerring accuracy, created charecters who seem absolutely real, and written a book that cannot be put down. Women of color, and for that matter all women (and men) everywhere will want to read this, and then read it again. Ms. Moore also has a way with language that is exciting. She depicts both the women and men as very true to life, with authentic vocabularies.

WAITING FOR A SEQUEL

I found that I was able to identify with and quickly become a part of Mary Frances and her life. It is a story that I can identify with, and my daughters and granddaughters can learn from and gain additional understanding. These lessons of womens' history need to be clearly stated and brought before us on a regular basis so that the gains will not be forgotten or taken for granted. This novel brings you heart and soul into the reality. I had to leave the story halfway to take a trip. I couldn't wait to get back to it and see the resolution of the challenges in her life. It was easy to pick it up and immediately become re-immersed in the story.

Looking for more...

Writing beautifully in first person, the author invites me into the story. I became Mary Frances, her problems became my problems, and her joys became my joys. We were one. I recommend that all women read Miz Fancy. There is a message for all of us. Those of us old enough to remember events in this book can look back and see how far we have come and how far we still have to go. Those not old enough to remember these events might well look to the accomplishments of their mothers and grandmothers and say, 'You did a lot, but we still have a long way to go.' The other worthwhile thought that all women can take from Miz Fancy is that the Bucky's of this world will always exist. They must control women to make themselves feel bigger. Usually, the control is with sex and sometimes the control is with abuse, verbal and/or physical. I hope there will be a sequel to Miz Fancy. I admire Mary Frances and want to see how she handles the problems ahead of her.

Great Read!

It is a great book and I enjoyed it throughly! I found it to be what I would call a quick and easy read that never dragged or lost my attention. I didn't want to stop reading and stayed in bed on a rainy Saturday until I was finished. I was completely engrossed in the main character, Mary Francis. She was someone I cared about and I wanted to keep reading to discover more about her. She seems very real to me. I particularly enjoyed reading about that part of history, as someone who is a little too young to remember it myself. I was born in 1959 so I don't remember the King or Kennedy assassinations, or much about the civil rights stuff from that time period. By the time I went to first grade in Kentucky in 1965, the schools were integrated. In most good literature, the main character, grows or changes which Mary Francis did and it was wonderful to see her transformation. It will one that I will be passing around and recommending to friends.
