Missy is a gray-and-white kitten who loves to cuddle with her new adopted family, especially eight-year-old MJ. One day, Missy spots a bluebird outside her window and chases it throughout the neighborhood and down to the park. But then she realizes she doesn't know where she is or how to get home! As she searches for a way back to MJ and her family, she meets a dog, a turtle, twin sister ducks, an owl, a bunny, and even a "tough guy" mouse. They are all very different, but they pull together to help Missy find her way home. The new friends have lots of fun adventures, such as playing in the park, having a picnic, and enjoying a hat party, but they also run into terrible danger, including a thunderstorm, a hungry eagle, and a very unfriendly alligator! But through it all, they protect one another and do everything they can to help Missy in her quest.
