NOTE: This review is in reference to the Fifth Edition of this particular work. I must admit to not having been all that happy with previous editions of this book. This one is much improved though. It still leaves many of the flowering plants out and if this work is used alone, one will find it difficult to identify many of the plants encountered in Missouri. As an example, during a trip this past spring, I was able to locate 32 flowering plants in the area I was working. Of the 32, I was unable to identify 17 using only this book. This can be very, very frustrating. On the other hand, this edition does seem to cover more ground than previous editions and I you use other guides to supplement this one, then it is workable. I photograph wild flowers as a hobby and exact identification is important to me. I suppose this would be a very good guide for those who want to enjoy a nice walk in the woods and to satisfy their curiosity and are not quite as obsessive as I am. I do carry a number of field guides with me on my ramblings and do now include this one.
