Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is a delightful, ongoing comedy manga series about a young lady who, after saving a dragon's life, finds herself the object of its indebtedness and undying affection. Miss Kobayashi is your average office worker who lives alone in her small apartment--until a young and adorable dragon girl named Tooru appears before her. Upon saving Tooru's life, the fiesty dragon will do anything to pay off her debt of gratitude, including insisting that she move in with Miss Kobayashi and serve her in any way she does or doesn't desire. Now Miss Kobayashi finds herself with a new, imposing roommate, who is doing her best to help out around the home. But when you're a dragon, nothing is ever simple. Kobayashi's normal life just went off the deep end.
A wounded and adrift Tohru the dragon serendipitously, met Miss Kobayashi, a normal office worker, who kindly offers the lost dragon a place to stay. From there Tohru becomes Miss Kobayashi's devout maid and the two women learn to live together, while Tohru learns live in the human world. Which is made a whole lot harder when more and more of her dragon friends come by, including one little dragon named Kanna, who also takes up living with the two!
The art in this volume is spectacular! Particularly with the Dragon's details and Tohru's ever sparkling eyes. It also really helps accentuate the heartfelt and comedic moments, which were already hilarious.
At first, I was captured by the cuteness and humor, but didn't find much particularly special about the series, but about halfway through I really saw the beauty in it. With how caring Miss Kobayashi was to her dragon roommates and Tohru's slightly delusional side but welling meaning attitude. Plus, the more that was revealed, like Kanna and Tohru's other dragon friends Lucoa and Fafnir, by the end I was craving to know more about the four dragon characters and the dragon world they come from.
There are quite a few volumes of the main story, Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, and spin-off series, all of which I plan on collecting in due time.
