I became aware of this book in reading the excellent book that Mr. Hyams wrote about James Dean-Little Boy Lost.Hyams was a friend of Jimmy's. In Little Boy Lost, he wrote that he had written a Chapter about Jimmy in his earlier book Mislaid in Hollywood .I was curious about that and I bought a copy. This book is full of personal stories and ancedotes about people that Joe Hyams was friendly with or knew through 1950s to early 1970s Hollywood. People like James Dean, Marlon Brando, Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring,Ava Gardner,Humphrey Bogart,Lauren Bacall ,Marilyn Monroe the list goes on and on.Mr. Hyams has certainly lived an interesting life full of fascinating experiences. And since he is a professional writer the Chapters are well related to the reader and deftly. My favorite thing about this book though is the Chapter on James Dean. In my opinion, Joe Hyams has done the best writing on James Dean that I've ever seen.Especially his book -Little Boy Lost.I came away from his books feeling like I actually got a real glimpse ofJames and his life, especially the last 18 months of his life when he was in Hollywood. And also Mr. Hyams has written what I believe to be the fullest, most accurate accounts of Jimmy's relationship with Pier Angeli, a lot of which he witnessed firsthand.Thats something that is sorely lacking in James Dean literature . Because of that reason alone, I can't praise his books enough.
