An introduction to the 'Mishnah'

Rabbi Lipman provides the reader with an introduction to the 'Mishnah'. The Mishnah is the compilation of Oral Laws made in the second century which along with the commentary on it ( the Gemara) constitute the Oral Law, basis of Jewish religious practice. Rabbi Lipman in his introductory chapter explains what the Mishnah is , and the part it plays in Jewish life. The main text of the work consists in excerpts from the Six Orders and over sixty Tractates that comprise the Mishnah. There are also notes following the text that explain the text. This is a very good introductory work for the English- language reader. And this when it is of course more ideal to be able to read and study the work in the original Hebrew.
