Short, clear book--good present for students

This should be available in hardcover (I was looking for one here, but alas, no luck). The author clearly describes the concept, with several examples of how to use it. Yes, it has a business slant to it, but that is not a bad thing. It is written clearly enough that even middle school children would be able to use it to improve their note-taking skills. The map examples after each chapter give a clear summary of the chapter and are easy to read. I liked this book much better than the Tony Buzan book. Why? All of the pretty maps in his book were fine as examples of "arty" maps, but the map YOU draw is going to be the one that works for you. If you're using this method to take notes in a hurry, you're going to use the basic map, in a way that makes sense to YOU, not necessarily anyone else. Other than as a project in and of itself, for yourself, the ornate maps in the Buzan book are not practical for most people individually, let alone in group situations. Also, there was too much "do it this way, or you're not doing it right", which is completely (and happily) absent from the Mindmapping book. Mindmapping is a good present for any student you know.

This book must be mandatory at first levels of university

Just excellent. Try this book and you will end up using a big percentage of your brain that probably was slipping for many years (if it was ever awake)

Interesting uses for this book

As a IT professional, I've passed 28 computer certification tests. How? By using the principles contained in this book and mindmapping in general. Tricks for memorization, pure and simple. Mindmapping works.

extremely valuable

The material is concise, and unlike many other books of this type, it is long on solid material and short on mumbo-jumbo.

MindMapping -- Food for Thought

Although Joyce Wycoff's book gets off to a very slow start, it later proves to be quite useful and inspiring. The first sectioned bored me with too much "how to use this book" information and information about how the mind works. I kept wondering when in she going to tell me exactly what mindmapping is and how to use it. When will the commerical end? Also, Joyce sometimes loses focuses and starts lecturing me about "avoiding sexism" and the importance of using short words in my writing. This has nothing to do with mindmapping. The book would be better if it focused more on the technique of mind mapping itself. There are some excellent and inspiring ideas, however, on how to use mind mapping. I've already used some of these ideas and the results have been quite satisfying. The material includes ideas on how to use mind mapping for: Group brainstorming sessions. Creating and using To-Do lists. Preparing for and Making Presentations. Improving Learning Skills. Mapping for personal growth.I highly recommend Wycoff's MINDMAPPING.
