"This small accessible book contains the essence of the Seven-Point Mind Training, expressed in the intimate colloquial style that distinguishes Ringu Tulku's teachings. The Seven-Point Mind Training,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I bought this book based on Richard Carr's review -- and it is a great book. I had never heard of Ringu Tulku -- he may be in England. I am a 20-year practitioner of tonglen/lojong and this book added to my deepening of the fine points, which is why I buy and read yet another commentary on my main practice. Good teachers always illuminate things in different ways, Ringu Tulku is no exception. I think this would be a good book for a beginner, as wellas an advanced student. IF you are not a buddhist, however, I still recommend Pema Chodron's "Start Where You Are" to set a foot on the path. You can't go wrong with her even if you do not become a buddhist!
I think this is really the best book on Mind Training

There must be at least ten books in print which are commentaries on the Tibetan Seven Point Mind Training. They are all good in their own ways, but for me, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche's book stands head and shoulders above the others. It somehow manages to be direct, practical and down to earth, funny, challenging, uplifting and inspirational all at the same time. The book is a beautiful, easy read. But that's deceptive - it's also a very powerful book. It really is capable of helping produce clarity of outlook, reduction of attachment, positive mental change, increased compassion, commitment to one's path .... it's fantastic It contains clear and practical advice on preliminary thinking, on lojong (mind training) practice and there is good Q & A throughout. The teachings are based around a series of fifty odd slogans which seem to lodge easily in one's memory - so much so that daily events frequently make one think of one of the slogans and then of Rinpoche's explanations or stories that go with it. Then, because what he says is so practical, one does stop, reflect and act differently. I bought a copy of this book last summer and must have read it six or seven times since - each time finding different, important new themes resonating for me. It has created a wonderful practice for me. I couldn't recommend it more strongly.

A constant companion. I have read this book over and over again. You need not be religious nor a Buddhist to get something of value from this book. Put simply it is an insight into the nature of the human mind and human emotions and how with mindfulness and reflection we can use the capacity of our spirit to solve our troubles and how be happy individually and as a society.
