Great fun, easy to read

I admit that I have been avidly reading chick lit books for the past year. It's my vice. :) This book has been one of the best reads. While other books have lulls in them, this book kept me reading and guessing. Not only was I trying to guess which Mike she picked, I was smiling...there are so many moments I could picture myself in. It's meant to be a fun book to read - and it delivers. It's meant to be a book that keeps you guessing - it does. I was entertained the entire book and read it within a couple days.

My favorite fun book

This is my favorite light book. After reading it, I bought every Wendy Markham book! I've passed it to my friends and even the most reluctant readers loved it. It's easy, fast paced and very funny, yet it does not insult. If you were single in the 80's and are now a mom it is a must, must read. If you also worked in Manhattan then order it right now!

This one will keep you guessing

Beau is a stay at home mom of three rambunctious boys. She and the love of her life, Mike, have settled down in the `burbs, and life has become a bit monotonous. Lately, she's been thinking about the other Mike she loved, especially when out of the blue, he sends her an e-mail. Suddenly she's wondering what might have been had she chosen him. Despite her friend's warnings and protestations, she arranges to meet Mike in Florida while visiting her in-laws, where he confesses that he's never gotten over her. Beau meets the first Mike while at summer camp. They spend each summer together, and now that they have graduated, she assumes that they will take the next step - living together or getting married. But Mike thinks it is all too sudden, and is not sure he wants to take a job in New York or California, where he has an opportunity to work on something called the world wide web ("is that like USA for Africa?"). Enter the other Mike. whom she meets in an airport bar and feels an instant rapport. He gives her his business card, and she thinks that she has tossed it out. Then she finds it and starts seeing him platonically, though he's more interested in a relationship, and she doubts the first Mike's commitment to the relationship since he wants to remain in California. Each chapter is identified as past or present (1989 versus 2004), and chock full of so many pop culture references to the 80's that late boomers will get a kick out of the trip down memory lane. The past and present flow so well together. As Beau bounces from anecdotes and stories about each Mike, the reader is just not sure which Mike she ended up with. Just when you think you know that it is one Mike, you reconsider and believe it is the other Mike, and then back again. "Mike, Mike & Me" is a cleverly written and entertaining novel that will keep you guessing.

Absolutely LOVED this book!

I wasn't sure if I would like it and I ended up loving this book. It keeps you going up until the last page. I couldn't wait to finish it to figure out which Mike she ends up with. There are barely any hints throughout the book, so it really ends up being a surprise (at least to me). Seriously one of the best chick lit books I've read in a long time!

Fabulous tale

In 1989, high school student Barbra "Beau" is dating Mike when she meets a new Mike. The two Mikes in her life are as different as any pair of people could be, but she likes both of them. After a difficult time making up her mind Beau finally picks one Mike and marries him, leaving the other Mike behind. Fifteen years later, Beau and Mike remain married raising three kids and living in Westchester County, New York. When the rejected Mike contacts Beau, her dissatisfaction with being a suburban mom surfaces. She begins to dream of returning to the big city, doing something besides being a mom and wondering if she married the wrong Mike. This fabulous tale rotates between the present and the past with the lead female protagonist considering which Mike is right for her in each time period. The story line uses 1989 teen cultural icons and other references to anchor that era, but does so within the context of the subplot. Wendy Markham also keeps readers guessing on which Mike became the spouse with that twist turning the story into a one sitting tale that in ways reminds the audience of hypocrisy of The Importance of Being Earnest.
