Wake up, o man of God

This book is not only challenging but its alot of common sense. Disregard the negative critiques of this book as I'm sure they have not even read it but simply are biased against the church of Christ. Laing is real and gets the the point of being MEN in a world of boys, especially in America where men are really boys with too much worldly freedom, power, and idle time. These things lead to a mindset of opposition to the word of God and holiness, and Laing reminds us to not settle for living like our worldly, unbelieving peers. He tells alot of personal experiences, but does not do it ways to be dogmatic, he simply gives anecdotes of how faith delivered him and taught him, which is good because it reminds me of how Jesus didn't ask His followers to do anything He Himself never did or would. He also offers challenges to men that even worldly men are already doing! One of his best points was how the church can seem to be filled with boys who prefer to argue over controversies rather than be hard-working and God-fearing MEN! He brings up the FACT that there is an overflow of women in the church, and how they are usually doomed to be single because of this problem with the men. If you're going to be a man of God, be a MIGHTY man of God! The book is good, it is worth the $2 you'll pay. Someone gave me this book and suggested I read it, at first I didn't want to but I read through the table of contents and saw some things that I could definitely do better in my walk with Christ. You don't have to agree with everything he says, but you at least cannot deny the good challenges that will only shape and clean you up for the better. The book is nothing but practicals and reminders to be more than "church folk." Enjoy =)

A Mighty Challenge To Men

Sam Laing writes a timely challenge to men to rise up and be men of God. He takes his text from 1 Chronicles 24 where David numbers his mighty men. Laing builds off each of the mighty men to show biblically how men should live lives of purity, honesty, integrity, holiness, and committment to Jesus as their Lord. While I am not part of the International Churches of Christ, I found Laing's book to be doctrinally sound (Titus 2:1) and not focused on any one group. Laing's heart is for true disciples (Luke 14:25-35) and Laing has been part of the reformation taking place within the International Churches of Christ. The book does not teach mind control of any kind nor does Laing push for his readers to join ICC churches.
