Midnight Resolutions

(Book #2 in the Where You Least Expect It Series)

When midnight strikes... The last thing temp agency owner Ian Cumberland expects on an icy New Year's Eve is a little magic. But when a stunner of a woman plants a sizzlin' kiss on him in the middle of Times Square, Ian's world explodes. A moment later, she's gone.... But as much as Ian shakes Rose Hildebrande to the tips of her designer shoes--and a few other choice places --she can't afford to fall for a charming pauper instead of Prince Charming...

A bit of reality

Well, one of the things I really liked about this books was that the hero is not a CEO, sheik or oil baron. He's actually a guy who's been impacted by the lousy economy and lost a high-paying job. I think the author had balls (pardon the expression) to create such a character. Though he's taken a blow to the ego, he's discovered that his new, much less lucrative position, is something he enjoys--helping people. And he's good at it, too. Now the heroine--some reviewers claim she's a gold-digger. Well, who among us hasn't been told "it's just as easy to marry a rich man as a poor one"? Well, maybe if you're gorgeous. Rose is gorgeous. She had been poor and she knows it sucks. She has other issues as well, but they didn't trouble me. I liked the character. I liked them both. Ian's friends were given short shrift, yeah, I agree. I would have liked more about them, or just drop the romance part between them altogether. I love Kathleen O'Reilly's stuff and she's an automatic purchase for me. This story was not as satisfying as the O'Sullivan trilogy, but still, I enjoyed it.

Unexpected

At first I really didn't like the herione in "Midnight Resolutions" by Kathleen O'Reilly. And as much as I didn't like "Rose" I like "Ian that much more. However, as the story progressed, you learn more about Rose. Yes, she's a damaged and flawed person, but I understood her flaws and recognized where the damage came from. As for the hero? Ian Cumberland is one of the most full-blooded, interesting, sexy heros I read in a VERY long time. Frankly, I loved this book. Highly reccomended.
