Brewi and Brennan use a blend of Christianity with Jungian psychology to address four stages of the mid-life process: the archetypal perspective, the task of coming to terms with the "shadow personality," working with the inner child, so that the child can lead the adult into this new stage of living, and exploring Wisdom, the fruit of living.
yes, i highly recommend this book. i found it perhaps life-changing, really. Moving, articulate, i'm surprised its not rated higher.

Even if you've very little understanding of Jung's ideas, you'll be able to follow this book. It's easy to read, interesting, and thought provoking. More important, it addresses some of the questions I've asked as I moved into my, uh, twilight years. Further, corroberation of the ideas put forth are drawn from a wide variety of sacred and secular texts. The book is broken into four sections: The Life Cycle, The Shadow, The Child, and Emerging Wisdom. I quite enjoyed the "Reflective Exercises" at the end of each section that gave me a chance to think about, and integrate, what I'd just read. And like anything that goes to the core of our own personal belief system, we should remember we can take the best and leave the rest. Me? I'm taking a lot away from this book!

Do not attempt this book if you are under 30, have never made a mortgage payment, or said "I Do". However if you are experiencing the tremors of approaching middle age this just could be your guidebook to the next phase in your life. It's the time of life in which, according to the authors, the things that used to 'work' for you-personality traits, methods of dealing with life- just dont anymore. And more important, why they don't. Be warned this is not a Life 'Lite' read; its slow going but worth the effort especially for those intrigued with the work of renowned Swiss psychologist Carl Jung.
