Initially was introduced to the Thomson Course Technology Books when taking an adult education class on the Microsoft Office Word program. I really found the text book used in that class superb, and have since purchased others in the "illustrated" series and found each one of them excellent. Lessons are on two facing pages and every tip or bit of information one needs to succeed in learning the topic is included. The proof comes when one tries the independent challenges after the chapter or Unit. If I get stuck I know I will find the information I need in the preceding chapter so every thing is right there in the chapter and once one memorizes the techniques by practicing them on the independent challenges one can feel secure in completing the tasks in any similar situation. I never have to search or dig for information anywhere but in the preceding chapter it is very well organized and doesn't frustrate the student as no prior knowledge is assumed in these lessons.I have four of these illustrated series books now and find them excellent for learning independently and even better if one has an instructor. The only way to retain such knowledge gained though is by practice so one does have to practice the topics learned until they really become second nature and one doesnt have to go back and review or look up how they were done. I found everything I needed to learn or master a technique right in this book.
