A Mystery in the Old West

Where is Organ Pipe? What happened to it? Why does everyone want to change the subject when it is mentioned. These are some of the problems that Clint Adams must deal with in this surprisingly good installment of the long running series. This is a real page turner and you can actually feel the tension build but I have to agree with the previous reviewer. it does seem like this story really could have used an extra two or three chapters to round things out more but still not a bad read.

A great premise with a disappointing ending

"Message on the Wind" is another excellent book in the The Gunsmith series. In this outing-Clint Adams finds himself the recipient of a scrap of paper with the simple message "help us" written hastily across it. Having little to go on, Clint's search leads him to seek out a mysterious town called "Organ Pipe". Time and time again, the reader is left to wonder why every person Clint talks to along the way seems to lie to him about what they really know about the mysterious town. What are they all trying to hide? What I liked most about "Message" is that right from the beginning, the reader is treated to an incredibly intriguing premise-a scrap of paper, a mysterious message and away we go. What was ultimately disappointing though was that despite the fact "Message on the Wind" had the most intriguing plot of all of The Gunsmith books I've read, the story chose ultimately to sort of "wimp out" at the end. What could have been a really dynamic plot is seemingly cut short of its momentum as if the author reached the end, filled his quota of pages and called it a day. It's too bad really, but despite the fact-"Message on the Wind" is still a great read.
