The porcine wonder is off to the drive-in -- and driven to follow that buttery smell -- in a comic crescendo that reunites a familiar cast of characters. Some may find it wonky to take a pig to the movies. But not Mr. and Mrs. Watson, who think the title of the film is inspirational. And not their beloved Mercy, who is inspired by the fact that the drive-in proudly serves real butter on its Bottomless Bucket of popcorn. So when they pull up in their convertible, Mercy lifts her snout and becomes a pig on a mission - for what is more heavenly than being hot on the trail of a true butter smell? Masterful slapstick director Kate DiCamillo sends Mercy on a delirious chase, followed by a trail of hapless rescuers that fans will recognize from prior episodes. And Chris Van Dusen's comic retro illustrations perfectly capture a nostalgic pastime - along with the newest antics of a charmingly single-minded pig.
I received this as a gift from my parents. I love Kate DiCamillo. My students love her work as well. I have an elementary class that wasn't too interested in reading. I began with Winn-Dixie and The Tales of Desperaux. Now when one of her books shows up in our library, it is difficult to check one out due to the students taking it out and reading them. I like this book especially because it use one of my favorite words "Wonky".
My daughter loves these very cute books.

Once I start a series and love the first two books ---- well, you just keep going. I'm so glad the quality of Kate's Mercy Watson's stories have been consistent. I do like some better than others --- but the fact is, I like them all. All the characters do appear in this book ---- amazing how clever she is to think of a way to bring them all in ---------oh, and introduce new characters as well. It surprised me, we had let the books lie for a while ---- after reading every night for months --- and my daughter had forgotten our little cowboy friend. :) What a hoot.
Can't Stop Reading!

I cannot say enough about this series! My daughter could not put the books down. This last installment will not disappoint if you have been following Mercy all along. The story is cute, funny, and interesting for young readers. We especially like that Kate DiCamillio uses words that challenge the young reader along with the easy reading text. The pictures are fabulous! This set is worth having in your home library!
