I enjoyed this book because it gives every priesthood member a guide on how to use this God given gift. By following the information written in this book, we can magnify our callings as well as our priesthood. Great gift for every Latted-Day Saint.
Men of Influence: Solid in Many Ways but ...

Over the years I have liked the work of Robert Millet on a variety of topics. Then in one book he takes a shot at Stephen Covey, who certainly didnt deserve it, where he kind of paints himself a little holier than thou. So I have refrained from buying his books. But on this one I felt like I could use it and needed it so I lifted my own prejudices and tried again. This is a solid book I mostly enjoyed and he is well documented. I struggled with the many personal references in it but maybe that is just me? Overall he takes some key topics, documents them well and makes his case of how to be men of influence in the gospel. We'd certainly all be better for his advice but ...
Men of Influence: The Potential of the Priesthood to Lift the World

Success, happiness, rejoicing of life's gifts mostly comes as we extend our hand & hearts in service while striving to love, influence, inspire and lift up those around us. Robert L. Millet makes certain the calling of men to do what is pre-ordained by connecting one's life to God's plan and the success which inevitably follows is heard loud and clear. Life with abundance takes Influence. Men of Influence stands as a great referral to what men have given testimony to for ages...in order to reach our potential we need to know to give, to love; as tomorrow will not present itself and to feel God's presence in our hearts, thoughts and actions. Men of Influence is a must read in helping all who wish to learn what success means and where happiness can be found. Loyd LaRue

Boyd K Packer taught the brethren, "Your gender was determined in the premortal existence. You were born a male. You must treasure and protect the masculine part of your nature." Understand the context of President Packer's statement. A growing body of literature shows that there is institutionalized male-bashing. It begins early, as Sommers shows in The WAR AGAINST BOYS: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men. It infects the arts, as shown in Spreading Misandry: The Teaching of Contempt for Men in Popular Culture, and has corrupted the legal system, as shown in Legalizing Misandry: From Public Shame to Systemic Discrimination Against Men. Indeed, we can see this trend summed up in Judge Sotomayor's comments about " a wise Latina woman" adjudicating better "than a white male" (Women Who Make the World Worse : and How Their Radical Feminist Assault Is Ruining Our Schools, Families, Military, and Sports). Thus Brother Millet is a subversive. He is recruiting men--males--everywhere to be his agents, sabotaging society's anti-male scripting. His book is the opening shot in a counter-Babylon counter-culture counter-revolution. The question is, will we join him? * This book is really a song. The chapter-themes are based upon Hymn 321, which ironically was written by a woman. The hymn is hortatory, a musical exhortation. But Brother Millet transforms this unfamiliar hymn into a rallying song, even a pro-male anthem. I am left with some questions. This book is a follow-up to Men of Valor: The Powerful Impact of a Righteous Man. Do we get a third installment--a testosterone trilogy? And can we create a groundswell of support for a Latter-Day Promise Keepers? A Rally for Mighty Men of Valor? For her part, the Latter-day Sister has several options. She has the General, Stake, and Ward Relief Society meetings. She can then go to the BYU Woman's Conference, and finally attend a Deseret Book Time Out For Women. But men do have so many options. We have the various priesthood meetings, but there is no Promise Keepers of the Latter-day Saint soul. Add to that this male-bashing countercurrent, and there may be a need. Hymn 321 can be the opening song, then we can have presentations, music, exhortations and discussions, all in a casual setting. There are possibilities here. Let's explore the propriety of theses suggestions. As there is more to womanhood than motherhood, there is more to manhood than priesthood. This book highlights the power of maleness, which is an aspect of godliness.
