She finds danger in trying to find out why her parents died

Charlie Parker, Albuquerque CPA, is cleaning out her house to make room for her fiance Drake and all his things. They met in Hawaii where he was a helicopter tour guide. Now he is moving in with her and hoping to start his own helicopter business. While Charlie is going through boxes of her dad's, she finds his old leather notebook. He always carried it with him. She wonders how it ended up in a box in the attic instead of in the rubble of the plane crash that killed him and her mother approximately 15 years before. He was a scientist during the Cold War years. She reads the entries made the day he died. It starts her looking into what was going on back then and how and why they died.Charlie and her brother Ron run an investigation firm. Ron agrees to try to get a copy of the NTSB report about the crash. Charlie set up a meeting with Jim, an NTSB official, who calls and says he has important information to give her.The deeper Charlie gets into the investigation, the more dangerous things become for her and those involved around the investigation. There is also danger for those who are close to Charlie. Who could have caused her parents plane crash and why. What secret can be worth killing for after so many years? Who is next? This is the first book I have read by Connie Shelton, but I don't expect it to be the last. I enjoyed it. I found Charlie to be a very likeable sleuth. Her brother Ron and fiance Drake are also well constructed and believable characters. She did a great job with the setting and bringing forth the concern of danger from the investigation. I definitely recommend this book.

Charlie investigates her parents' death

Two events conspire to put Charlie Parker on an investigation of her parents' death. The first was that her neighbor, who helped raise her after her parents' death, confides that their plane crash was not an accident, but was the result of a bomb which had been planted on the plane. The second event is that Charlie's fiance, Drake, will soon be coming from Hawaii to move in with her. This necessitates rearranging some of her things to make room for Drake and her discovery of some of her father's old papers in the attic. Her father had been an employee of Sandia Corporation and had been privy to some confidential government information. Working on the theory that her father had some incriminating evidence about someone at his job, Charlie begins interviewing his former co-workers and looking for answers to her questions about the plane crash. Bad things begin happening to Charlie and the people she talks to, and the net begins to tighten around Charlie and the murderer. This is another good entry in the Charlie Parker series.

Excellent Charlie Parker mystery

When Charlie Parker was a teenager her parents died in a plane crash. Being spoiled and preoccupied with her prom, Charlie thought they were going on a vacation. However, years later Charlie learns that her parents were actually going on a business trip sponsored by her father's employer the Scandia Corporation. Instead of pilot error or mechanical failure, Charlie finds out that a bomb blew up her parent's plane. Scandia Corporation squashed the investigation. Charlie feels the need to learn why her parents were murdered. Obsessed by the incident, Charlie reacts the way she always acts when she needs to know something. She starts her own investigation. She begins with her father's ex-secretary, who sends her to a possible informant. However, before they meet, an assassin murders Charlie's pigeon. Someone ransacks Charlie's office and Hannah's home seeking information they believe Charlie possesses. In spite of the increasing danger, the tenacious Charlie continues her inquiries wondering what the unknown assailants think she owns. The fifth Charlie Parker mystery is the best of the series as the story line combines an emotional look inside Charlie with a well-designed who-done-it. Charlie's romance with her live-in lover helps relieve some of the growing tension surfaced by her investigation. MEMORIES CAN BE MURDER demonstrates Connie Shelton's talent as the audience will find a night with Charlie is an exciting evening.
