The "Meg" books were among my very favorites when I was a child - I only wish there had been more of them! I can honestly say it was one of the few series I read after age 6 which had illustrations I appreciated. The stories are so well-told that even after many readings they drew me again and again. This was the first of the books I ever read -- given to me as a present because my family had once lived in Williamsburg. Meg's independence and resourcefulness, even while dressed up in full Colonial costume, are captivating. As she and her friend Kerry try to unravel a puzzle about some old dolls, they encounter just the right mix of help and danger. The final solution follows well in the storyline, without being obvious from page one. If you can find any of the books in this series (sadly out-of-print) I highly recommend them!!!
