Me, My Goat, and My Sister's Wedding

ISBN 0671662066 - Dating itself a bit with the prominently featured Walkman, Me, My Goat, and My Sister's Wedding is still a good book, 20 years later. And at 180 pages, it's just a little bit longer than the average book for the 9-12 year old set, which is a good thing. Years ago, Doug's father built a neighborhood clubhouse. It's had it's popular moments, but right now there's only three members - Doug, Frank and Woody. When Woody calls an emergency meeting, they have no idea what they're getting into. A guy he knows, Oliver, is going away on vacation...and will need someone to watch his pet goat, Rudy. Sounds like a great chance to make some money, but it doesn't turn out that way. The boys end up renting Rudy AND buying his feed from Oliver, too! From there, it's all kind of downhill. The boys decide to keep their guest a secret, but Rudy bleats in loneliness, escapes and causes havoc throughout the neighborhood, and in general makes the boys' goat-sitting days hard work. But Doug doesn't mind. Somehow, he and Rudy have connected. Doug's mother is away, visiting her sick sister and Doug's sister Sylvia is in town with her daughter, Missy, to help plan Doug's other sister's wedding. With all this going on, no one's really paying much attention to Doug, so he has lots of time to spend with his goat. Too bad Rudy's only visiting for two weeks... and it's probably a good thing he's leaving before the wedding! Keeps you entertained and reading, even though it seems predictable at times. There was one thing that bugged me - on page 36, Doug says "He was a really good watchdog." about his dog Prince. On page 45, he says "Prince, coward of the canines, would never make it as a watchdog..." Other than that (and let's face it, that's being picky), fun read!

Excellent
