...For Dummies gives you just what you need to pass this core exam on the MCSE Windows 2000 track. Covers: Exam 070-210 This description may be from another edition of this product.
Just passed the test today, and Glenn Weadock's book had a lot to do with it! It's the best I've seen with letting people in on what they need, and especially don't need, to know to pass the exam. And it works! As long as you use it with a 2nd book to compare the important points, that is. The humor in this book makes it an easy read. I also really liked the 2nd chapter, where he gives readers a concise overview of Windows technology in general, from Windows 3.x to today- It really helps tie everything together in a sensible way. With that as a foundation, the rest of the book covers what you need to know to pass the exam and nothing more: You won't be mastering all things 2000 with this book! In fact, having taken and passed the test today, I definitely want to emphasize the importance of using at least 2 books in preparation, if not more, because the exam is crazy-difficult! I used 3 of today's popular test-preps, and each one had a particular strength: Sybex (my favorite) for hands-on experience, ExamCram for straightforward essential info, and this "...For Dummies" book for readability and putting things into the proper perspective. Anyone new to IT would do well to get this book!
Great prep for the exam

Worked with NT for four years, WinPro for two months. Passed with 840 (540 to pass) with this book as my primary source. No wasted words in this one... Concise, but sufficient depth for the test. Good coverage of test topics. Used Minasi's 2000 Server book for more background in a few areas. Followed along on a test system for most of the topics - reviewing screens, creating accounts, changing security, etc. Used this book with MS Readiness Review and Mcse test web-sites for lots of test questions. Questions at the end of the chapters were good, but not as tough as those on the exam. A little light on networking. Had several networking and lots of troubleshooting questions on my exam. Get some hands-on experience, do lots of test questions from various sources, supplement with a second source and use this book to cover the basics. High quality, great value. Highly recommended.
Passed the exam in 3 weeks!

I just took the exam yesterday got 820! Needed 620 to pass. I had NEVER used or read anything about 2000 till May 2001. Brought the book studied one new chapter a day. Then spent nearly 2 weeks review. I put 2000 on my computer and did at least 3 pratise exams a day. I spent usually 30 minutes on each exam answering 60 questions. I also used Transcender but that got boring after you have taken the same exams 5 times. The amount of questions really helped. On my test I had at LEAST 10 questions and exhibits on IP and RIS. Know the requirements for RIS. Another good thing--He puts in LOTS of diagrams. Pay close attention--Microsoft will ask you what options are on a particular screen. Now the bad points:The author has a section on IP but he really should say more about HOSTS, LMHOSTS, and DNS and some of the problems that you may see. He says he will mention backup in chapter 8--could not find it. :-( His section on backup in chapter 13 does enough for the test but he does not even tell you about the differant types of backup--daily, copy, etc. On some exam questions the answers are like TRACERT but they are not mentioned in the book. He should give the common IP commands in the network section. All he says is using ping and IPCONFIG. He does not even mention some of the options such as RELEASE and RENEW. These are small things but I think he should beef up the network section a little. I should state that I have used WIN '95/NT for 6 years. All in all...GET THE BOOK AND TRANSCENDER and you will pass then test. All
This will get you there!!!

Just finished my exam with a 860/1000 score. I truly believe that this book and some online tests are more than enough to pass.I would have given it 5 stars if there where more diagrams and exhibit questions. I used Glenn Weadock for win 98 and I will use is 70-216 book as well.Well done Glenn
Great Introduction to Windows 2000 Professional

This book is ideal for those just getting to know Windows 2000 or as an additional resource for those pursuing their MCSE (MCP). I rated it with four stars because I believe additional resources are needed to achieve accreditation (along with hands on experience). I used it along with Minasi's "Windows 2000 Server." The study questions in "MCSE Windows 2000 Professional For Dummies" and on the CD are outstanding study resources.
