Good Self-Study Material

This is good material for those trying to LEARN the software (not just pass the test) and who have chosen self-study over classroom training. The material is relevant although some material is not likely to be seen on an exam (once again, good for those who wish to learn, not just test). There were a few errors on the CD-ROM based practice tests. The Networking Essentials practice test was particularly bad.
Good for those going after all 3 NT 4.0 exams

It makes a lot of sense to take the 3 NT exams for the MCSE, rather than 95 + NT server + nt server/enterprise. The workstation exam has elements in common with the server exam, which in turn has a lot of overlap with the enterprise exam. And this is the book that will help those following that course. It's organized by Objectives, not by exam. For example, Planning treats all three exams in the same chapter. I think the discussions are lucid and comprehensive. There are few errors for something of this size and scope, and a lot of those are matters of semantics. There are some questions that cover material before the material is discussed, and the connectivity chapter has 4 duplicate questions out of 22, which is weird. I also think the suggestions on study and learning cognition ought to be in the front of this massive tome, not at the end! By then it might be too late....But the review questions themselves are pretty good, with enough "trickiness" to prepare you to read carefully when it's time for the real thing. The practice test is also good, though I got the same question 3 times. THe interface is very authentic.

This book has what it takes to help you pass the exams. It describes in detail aspects of Server, Enterprise, and Workstation. Comprehensive descriptions, flow charts, and screen shots. Lots of information, you decide how/what is useful. The organization seems scattered?!? I expected the book to be sectioned off by platform, at first, but all the information is grouped and easy to find - look at the table of contents and see. However, the book does hit on all points for the exams, and with some hands on lab time and Transcender you will be ready for the 'finals.'
