Anyone who knows what it takes to become an MCSE knows that thefirst step is exam 070-058 or Networking Essentials. Also anyone whoknows certifications knows that Network+ certification replaces the 070-058 exam. Now we have a book that will make sure you can pass both! From the dreaded OSI Model to TCP/IP to network hardware to even networking cables and topologies, this 670 plus page fountain of information is well worth [it.] There is no other book I found like it.The skips no objective on either exam, and gives you a wealth of information to help you pass both exams. There is review questions at the end of each chapter, real world problems throughout the book and even objective test tips making this book a hard to beat deal.As with most books on this subject there is material on cd-rom. This book includes 2, 1 with practice tests and the other with video training material and some of the most comprehensive exercises I have ever seen. Sybex you have a winner! END

I recommend this book I used it along with the Exam Cram book the two complete each other. You might be able to pass with this book alone but why waste the 100 dollars if you don't. The goal of any test should be to pass on the first try. This book and the exam cram ISBN # 1-57610-193-4 will help you meet that goal. I recommend this book and give it the 5 star seal of approval. I passed this test on the first try with an 833 and I am a MCP. As with most of these study guides it helps to use more than one.
The best book!

I am currently studying for NW exam and I think that this book covers everything there is to know about networking. It is clear, easy to read and you don't have to be in expert in networking when you start reading it, as some other books assume you are :)
The book you need.

You can pass the exam using only this book. Very few MCSE study guides cover an exam A-Z, many need to be supplemented. But this book is all you need to pass the Networking Essentials exam.

James Chellis and co. did an admirable job of bringing together the various concepts and technology that are tested on the Networking Essential exam. The materials and practice questions reflect well on the actual exam. I would venture to say that if you read this book cover to cover, twice, you will have covered 95% of what's needed on the exam. However, Microsoft's scenario questions are substantially harder than the ones in the book, and you need to think laterally to avoid being tricked. If there is one weakness in this book, it is the somewhat less than adequate coverage of troubleshooting network problems. The exam has quite a few questions on troubleshooting, and luckily some hands-on experience helped me through. Some people think it is wise to take at least one NT exam before taking the Networking Essential one, and I agree. This is actually my first MCSE exam, but there are at least 6-7 questions that would make a NT expert laugh. I read this book twice, and also browsed through Microsoft's SSK, and passed with 931 on the first try.
