really good series!!

This is the fifth Mates, Dates book where Lucy had just decided to get back together with Tony, and he told her they should see other people. She feels left out because all of her other friends have boyfriends. Then she meets a boy named Daniel and he seems perfect; he's into fashion, like Lucy, he is honest, good looking and everything she could want in a boy. But then he starts telling her she should only do things with him and not her friends and he leads her everywhere and she has no say in what they do. Read the book to find out what Lucy decides to do!!!

A Fulfilling Read!!!

Cathy Hopkins has still not disappointed me in the first five "Mates, Dates, and..." books in her teen series, and I doubt she will be doing so very soon, or possibly even ever. Her writing is very fresh, clear, real, fast-paced, and wonderful. With each book being better than the last, any reader's expectations will be blown away as they discover that this author holds each character true to their original ways, while still altering them with time and the fact that they learn from their experiences. This series is hardly seen as "corny", as it is funny and seems as if it were written very extraordinarily by a mature teenager who has experienced a large number of things. Cathy manages to crawl into the minds of four very different, very close friends with their own uniquely recognizable personalities; and each book is told in the perspective of one of them. These books can be serious in certain moments, but not to the extent of extreme sentimentality. At times I even am led to believe that she might have experienced most of the situations that her characters fall into.Cathy Hopkin's "Mates, Dates, and..." series is entirely an amazing, fulfilling read for various age groups, particularly females in their teen years.

Mates, Dates, and Sole Survivors

Mates, Dates, and Sole SurvivorsBy: Cathy HopkinsWritten by: Kylie Barth This book is all about a girl named Locy Lovering and her two friends Izzie and Nesta. They book starts out with the three girls getting ready for summer break. They all make a resolution for the summer. Lucy decides that for her resolution, she is going to ask out Tony, Nesta's brother. Lucy and Tony had played around a couple of times before but never actually went out. So Lucy writes him a letter and gives it to Nesta to give to him. Then Lucy meets him that night and he tells her that he doesn't want to go oyut with her. Sad, Lucy runs home and tells Nesta to intercept the letter but its to late, he has it. So Lucy decides to ignore him. Izzie invites Lucy to a spa week and Lucy accepts. They go to the spa and Lucy meets a guy, Daniel. Her and Daniel become boyfriend and girlfriend. After they go home, Lucy begins to understand the real kind of guy Daniel is. He is very clingy and is jealous of Lucy's friend. So one day Lucy met Tony at a shop, and they begin to talk when all of a sudden Daniel appears. Tony leaves and Daniel and Lucy fight ending in Lucy dumping him. After that, Daniel keeps on texting her and sending her flowers, but she ignores him. In the end, the three girls decide to have a no boys sleepover. They decide that they don't need a guy to feel good about themselves. One of my favorite quotes in the book is, " Not even my dog was interested in what her was saying." I love this quote because I can really relate to it. Sometimes, when I am talking to people, they just interupt me and go on about somwething that is totally boring. I just try not to fall asllep and wonder if anyone else in interested in this. Another quote is, " There he was again, unhappy to see me." I can relate to this quote because sometimes when I am in a fight with someone and the next day I come to school feeling that were cool, she is unhappy to see me and still mad. When that happens, I am very sad and I feel very uncomfortable. I highly reccommend this book for young teenage girls. When I read this book, It was as though it was about my day at school. Everything you have to go through at one time is in this book. This is the fifth book in the Mates, Dates series. There is another one coming out in May of 2004. So if my review interests you, get the series and wait for the upcoming book.

Light, fun, and easy to read

Having loved the first four Mates, Dates, and... books, I had to get this one when I saw it at the store. Lucy, Izzie, Nesta, and TJ have all told their stories, and it's back to Lucy's turn. Having recently broken up with Tony, her first boyfriend, she's feeling pretty down. She doesn't think she'll ever meet another guy like him as long as she lives. But that all changes when she goes to this new-agey clinic with her dad and Izzie. She meets Daniel, and he's sweet, cute, and totally funny - they really hit it off, and soon start going out. Izzie and Nesta both dislike Daniel, but they don't want to hurt Lucy's feelings, but soon Daniel starts being a real jerk - not letting her hang out with her friends much, etc. This is a good book, a bit better than Lucy's first story (MAtes, Dates, and Inflatible Bras). Highly recommended.

Mates, Dates, and Sole Survivors

Okay, before you read this book I strongly reccomend that you read all of the the previous books in the Mates, Dates series. They are in order of relese: Mates, Dates and Inflatable Bras, Mates, Dates, and Cosmic Kisses, Mates, Dates and Designer Divas, and Mates, Dates and Sole Survivors.Mates, Dates and Sole Survivors, is a story about 4 girls : Lucy, Nesta, Izzie, and the new girl T.J (Theresa Joanne). The summer holidays has just begun, and all four girls are in for a summer of romance. T.J is going out with Lucy's older brother Steve. Izzie, is going out with Ben, one of the players in the band she's in, King Noz. Nesta is going out with SIimon, a boy she hardley gets to see. And Lucy.....well, that's a whole other story. Tony, Nesta's brother is in love with her. They have dated on and off for a while but Lucy didn't want anything serious. She wasn't ready for Tony's "wandering hands". But now she is ready for a serious relationship. All four girls are going to have a very interesting summer...This book is reccomended for anybody in their teenage years. I hope you enjoy it!
