Though a textbook, this is still one of the best and easiest to follow works on American Sign Language. This description may be from another edition of this product.
So outdated and cheesy.... but there aren't many other offerings.

I am a sophomore in college and I was able to use this for my ASL 1 and 2 courses. The illustrations are horrible in the cartoons... looks like 90s clipart. Speaking of the 90s, many of the signs are outdated or have extreme regional variations. For instance, some old signs describing ethnicity are not used anymore because they are offensive. The pictures of the signs themselves, which are snapshots of the 5 main people but turned into a drawing. It has some nice sections on Deaf culture and grammatical structure. The DVD is only helpful if you actually know what they are saying. In class, our instructor lets us watch the clips a few times then she will voice it to clarify. Without that, beginners might get lost easily. Overall, it is helpful though and much better than all the websites for the language. It's sad how such a beautiful language relies on poorly programmed /cheap websites that are ancient in today's standards... whereas other languages have advanced apps and programs for them like duolingo or rosetta stone...
